1st Approach

Huge roundabout in downtown Cape Town. We get dropped off at the Golden Acre Mall and start walking down the city streets. We end up visiting a Park before taking a taxibus and checking out the Sea Point area with Suzy's old school, etc. 

Stompin' Grounds

View of Table Mountain right after we cleared the haze seen in the picture before this one. This was the first time Suzy and I would be going together into Cape Town. (She used to live here some years back) 

Could...Cloud?

In Tantine Lily's car driving into Cape Town for the first time. This haze you see is extremely localized. It hung between the suburb we lived in and the start of the downtown area. I suppose it was caused by the CalTex oil fields or refineries. It hung think and wasn't too pleasant to breathe in. It hung over this one area and I never saw it again as long as I was in South Africa.

Bug Suzy found crawling on the driveway. It was BIG.

Looking towads Table Mountain in the suburb of Table View. Pascale's work "Steers" is on the right and the house we stayed at is to the left. I walked this road pretty much every day. This was my home.

Found this guy crawling on the ceiling in my room after a shower. They are so normal there, like ants for us.

Esther can learn intricate songs on the guitar in no time. She is 12 yrs old and has played for under a year with no tutoring. She picked up a song it took me and my friends a while to learn. (Part of Orion from Metallica)

Another view of Table View while we walk towards the beach. Notice the razor wire on the fence on your right. They used that wire, barbed wire, electric wire, broken glass, spikes, etc. to protect business property, personal property, homes, etc. We are approaching a main road and walking eastward. 

Table View, Cape Town, South Africa

So, how do you like your first view of South Africa? This is in a suburb of Cape Town called Table View. Pascale is walking on the left, Suzy barely seen on the right. We are walking towards the beach on the Atlantic on the day we arrived. 

End of Day 1, end of London

At this point Day 1 ends. Suzy and I get on our 11.5 hr British Airways flight direct to Cape Town.

It was actually a little bit difficult to get used to driving on the left at first. (Being in a car on that side) And when they drove us from the plane to the terminal I actually flinched once or twice.

I didn't think Madame Tussauds would ever end. It was rooms upon rooms of figures in different settings and tons we didn't even bother to photograph. At the end of it there is also a ride that takes you around some automated figures showing the history of London.

We were drenched on in a fierce and quick storm that lifted after 30 minutes and the sun shined so bright it burned away much of the water rather quickly. They have umbrella dispensing machines in certain places like we have pop machines!

Suzy and Tantine Lisette, relaxing on our Underground extension to Terminal 4 at Heathrow. We are so tired, and we still have to look forward to an 11.5 hr flight to Cape Town. Tantine watched us sleep at the airport for an hour before we got on that plane... 

Them Red Coats

Yes he is in the process of moving his left leg here. Every seven minutes or so they would leave their little shelter by taking about 2 steps forward. They would then go through a series of stretches, move the gun to their opposite side and return back inside.
