It's official. I cannot upload any pictures from either Firefox or IE at home nor IE at work. I click to upload, choose the picture and then as it is loading... it simply freezes.

This is why it has been so long without an update. Just letting everyone know my frustration!

A pic from my sister Karen's concert from this past Sunday evening. She played about 6 songs at Holy Joe's in Toronto. I hope to be able to get some video up at some point from this show.

Dead Body

Suzy and Pascale were peering down among the rocks and called and waved me over. They said there was someone down there. I looked and saw the yellow slippers and some white rocks..that really did look for a second like a bloated stomach.

Ew? Yes, quite ew.

These bugs came from and were everywhere! Thankfully they pretty much stayed out of the sun. I believe they ate the decaying kelp tree stalks.

I need to find a way to limit the number of "recent comments" in the sidebar.

Currently it shows..well a lot of them, and I would like to restrict this list to the most recent 5 - 10 comments.

I've done some searching but haven't been able to yet find a way to do this. I don't mind it listing the commenter and date but would also love to find a way to add the title of the post they commented on in the list.

Anyone out there able to lend some html assistance?

Oh, windy day!

The guy who took this photo must have misunderstood me.. When I asked him if he could take a picture of us he quickly (and fearfully) reacted with, "No!" I finally convinced him that there was nothing weird here and we got this!

A change from RSA

This is a picture of me at work. I actually don't work in the warehouse anymore, I am dedicated to the maintenance of equipment for one customer group. Both on their electronic board (SMT) production line and supporting the maintenance of the back end equipment as well. When this picture was taken I was also helping out in our large automated warehouse. I was in the racking with my supervisor checking out some damage. (One of the heavy cranes hit a pallet - think wooden plate - that was sticking out and it caused the whole frame to bend in one place!)

Signpost

Classic tourist device, yet I found it exciting since the South Pole was so damned close! (in a sense) This sign is near the Lighthouse at Cape Point in South Africa.

I don't know if you can tell but it is very windy in this picture. It was also a long walk to get up here! This is Mamy Cathy and Pascale near the end of the world.

Cape Point

This is the 2nd most southern tip of Africa. (The most southern one is slightly east of where we are) You could walk down to that little building you see in on the narrow cliff top but the view from this lighthouse location was magnificent.

Bury your head

Another amazing animal to see running beside your car. To see it eat, walk, all free right beside the road! What a time we had! Coming soon will be pics of 'Cape of Good Hope.'

Tease not...

 


When you either show something they recognize as food, or put something towards your lips these animals get very agitated. We were warned that if on foot we were to encounter these creatures we should back away very slowly, and raise nothing in our hands to our mouths. (Even water bottles) They will deem themselves higher up than us and will get angry that we are eating instead of them.

In this picture our tour guide showed the banana and started to drive slowly, the animal you see here got mad, loud and started to run beside the car just staring at us!

Ok, so sure this is in the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. It still could have stood in for those far away mountains I loved in Lord of the Rings!

Being here and feeling the immensity of this place was amazing. This is the 1er picture we will look at during our trip to Cape Point. 

We're engaged!

I can finally announce it to you all! On Dec 22nd Suzy Ongendangenda said yes to me, so we are now engaged! This is one happy post for sure! We are thinking of a fall wedding and will be having a 2nd, traditional style wedding in South Africa probably in the winter. I cannot wait!

...Penguins!

Here they are! The only land based colony of penguins in the world. These birds came to South Africa in about 1984 if I remember and just stayed. They do not leave and live on one particular beach left for them. They make quite an odd noise and are known as 'Jackass Penguins.' (Think donkey!)

Now just what do you suppose that is? What is that digging a hole in this white sanded beach?

Worker's Tribute

While driving along the beautiful coast south of Cape Town we came across this section. You can see in this picture that the road is cut to run right under the side of the mountain. But when Suzy and I approached it all we could discuss is who the companies would have had building it. Considering some of the past of South Africa we wondered how many people died during this part of the construction... and how many of them were not white. Sort of took the fun out of it for the moment.

One of my favourite pictures from this trip. I love how the clouds hang off of each other in layers. I don't pretend to understand how it happens...but this area of South Africa has amazing sunsets and great clouds. WOW 

We miss you Pascale

 

Pascale Mbu-Letang on the left and Suzy Ongendangenda on the right. The captain of this ship let the three of us ride with him in his 'bridge' on the main deck when it started pouring. Every other tourist had to go below and look out the windows. We got to use his binoculars and listen to interesting Cape Town rock.

Seal Island

One stop along our drive to the Cape Point was here to visit Seal Island. Aptly named, it is simply a bunch of rocks covered in Seals... all the time. This is a dedicated tourist attraction.

A forest!

This is what you see of a kelp forest...from the top. 

Even some Congolese ask: "You ate what?"

I don't really know how to spell it.. but I will call it Posse - Poss like Hoss, then A. Poss-A.
They live off of Pine Tree nuts so they taste..nutty! (no you don't eat them alive!)

They tasted good with some Pondu and Pili-Pili (hot salsa) isn't it just yummy!
